Increase in population has led to acute natural water crisis in India. Resorting to an age-old custom of rainwater harvesting is back in vogue. The method of preserving rainwater may be broadly defined as rainwater harvesting. This is done either by collecting rainwater in large tanks, or by recharging the water back into the soil, leading to an increase in the level of groundwater. The structure for RWH does not require much expense or effort. Soak pits, or a concrete tank built under the ground of your compound can be used for harvesting rainwater. Rainwater if recharged into the soil is said to reduce the salinity of groundwater. Catchments for rainwater include rooftops, lakes, tanks, open grounds etc.
